We retreated to Kathmandu yesterday to wait and see. The irony is that it was such a beautiful day. Blue sky and views. The porters arrived about 8 am to carry down our duffels. 3 diminutive women and a guy, strapping 2 large duffels around their foreheads, and then proceeding down hill in runners. As we headed down we encountered multiple porters heading up, indicating how many people were preparing to abandon base camp, and head down. At the helicopter pad, there was a crowd waiting to get out. So now I’ll wait in Kathmandu, watch the weather, and decide whether to leave soon, wait a bit, wait a week until after the storm and see……..
